Part-time Sustainability Advancement Intern
Social media strategy for sustainability and business

Anna Manocha is a third year undergraduate student at UNC Kenan-Flagler who has completed her minor in Spanish for the Business Professions and is now pursuing a minor in Entrepreneurship. Anna is also an Assured Admit to Kenan- Flagler and a Kenan Scholar who desires to learn more about the intersection of the public and private sector. She has also studied abroad in Spain to improve her Spanish speaking skills and recently traveled to Guatemala with fellow Kenan Scholars to build houses in a primarily indigenous community in Guatemala under the guidance of the non-profit From Houses to Homes (De Casas a Hogares). Anna is passionate about sustainability in terms of investing in human resources and diversity and inclusion.

Anna is President of the She’s the First chapter at UNC, which is an organization that provides funding for girls in developing countries who will be the first in their families to graduate from secondary school. Anna believes that promoting women’s education is related to sustainability in a variety of ways (women earn up to 20% more as an adult with each additional year of schooling, are less likely to marry early and more likely to be in a healthy relationship, have fewer, healthier children, etc.). Anna recently received the UNC Award for the Advancement of Women for her work with She’s the First and other organizations on campus and abroad. Anna also incorporates sustainability into her everyday life by composting, growing her own food and adhering to a plant-based diet. Anna hopes to continue research on the tradeoff between efficiency and sustainability in terms of supply chains in the United States.
