Stacia L. Wood Social Impact Summer Grants Spotlight

Stacia L. Wood Social Impact Summer Grants Spotlight

The Stacia L. Wood Social Impact Summer Grants (SISG) provides financial support to MBA students utilizing business skills during their summer internship within organizations that make a positive social impact. The grants supplement the salaries of UNC Kenan-Flagler MBA students who take qualified internships in organizations that otherwise could not afford to pay for an MBA intern.

We highlight Hannah Burch, who received the SISG support last summer:

My SISG Experience by Hannah Burch

Dry Farm Wines curates only the highest quality natural wines from small, sustainable family farms that meet their strict standard of health. Dry farming agriculture (no irrigation) produces grapes that are lower in sugar and sulfites—ultimately much better for our own health and the health of our planet. Conventional commercial vineyards destroy the soil’s minerals and nutrients. Dry Farm Wines believes the preservation and expansion of family farming is integral to their mission; to connect more people with nature’s whole, pure bounties that optimize health and pleasure. They are committed to financially supporting farmers and artisans who share their passion and purpose.

As a subscription-based business model, my summer project focused on the Win-Back campaign in the Growth Marketing and Communication role. My job was to re-educate lapsed and cancelled members on the environmental and social impact their membership provides to small-scale European, South American, and South African growers. My time working for Dry Farm Wines brought me practical learning in direct marketing outreach and helped the company increase their sales by retaining customers.

The grant provided much needed financial assistance and allowed me to take an internship I otherwise could not have afforded. The grant helped me pay for groceries, transportation, and subsidized my living costs. The Stacia L. Wood grant allowed me to focus on my work rather than financial constraints.
